Certainly Paul urges the Thessalonians to love more and do more, confident that those who have died will rise with Jesus. Our Gospel passage from Matthew, a parable of Jesus about the kingdom of heaven, has as its theme: Be prepared! And so we reflect upon our readiness to meet Jesus today and in the next few weeks.
Recently I have conducted a number of funerals for men who have died of cancer in their late 60s. We know that life can be short and we know that the Scriptures urge us to number our days and make them count. We need from time to time to consider what really does matter and I pray that this is our ‘relationship with God!’ Take a few moments today to count your blessings; to reflect upon the deep and lasting things of life; to make sure, as far as it is up to you, that you are ‘all square’ with God. May the Lord continue to bless us all.
